I get very good reception in the DC metro area (NoVA). I estimate only 1-5% dropped calls, which is acceptable to me.

Same here in the Memphis metro area... I probably get somewhere near 1%.

I'm still waiting for a 3-D way of exploring the finder.

Something similar to the movie Hackers

Core Animation, just one more step in that direction

But if no one called 911, they could be in violation of local laws that make it a crime to ignore a violent crime.

There is no legal duty to assist, and laws requiring otherwise are unconstitutional and thus unenforceable.

    Finally!

I was going to spring for the refurb i5 at $1449 but then I saw the late 2009 i7 for $1369 and was wondering which model I should go for.

I'm honestly leaning towards the i7 and have a lot of faith in apple refurb products.

Last quarter... people were buying iPhones at a rate of over 200,000 per day. It doesn't matter what they look like... or what time of year it is... Apple will sell iPhones.

Even if the iPhone 5 looks the same but has upgraded hardware inside when it comes out in September... someone will buy it just like someone bought the iPhone 4 from January to March.

Do you have to upgrade to a new model every year? No.

But somebody is always ready to buy a new phone.

BTW... the 3G and 3GS looked the same... and that did OK.

I personally believe these days that the look of the phone comes secondary to what is "under the hood".

Yes it helps if it's a good shape with a good screen but if Apple continue to release devices that a technically better the the rest then people will lap it up - the death grip didnt stop so many iPhone 4s being sold did it - people accepted it as the device packed a punch

I always wonder why people decide to respond to the post below mine which says the same thing but with less proof...

Above I said the same thing with a specific example. It's not as fun to argue with someone who makes a good argument though, is it?

Great you posted some blog with an interesting interpretation of potential issues with the contract. Do you have any evidence that this policy has been enforced?

are you really folding on an air?

Yes. It's a great machine and very capable. I don't experience any overheating issues or such. However, at night, when I'm asleep, I run it on a cooling pad in the kitchen for those "just-in-case" moments. However, during the day, I just run it without the cooling pad since it's pretty loud.

I have a baseless, out-of-left-field prediction that I think would increase the Mac marketshare even further:

I think Apple and Microsoft will partner to include Virtual PC in Leopard. I can see them doing it as a BTO pre-install (like iWork), either Virtual PC alone, or with an XP/Vista bundle.

I can see no reason why Microsoft would have such a hard time with a virtualization program when little old Parallels can do it so quickly. They state they are "working with Apple to determine the future of the Virtual PC roadmap" or something like that. It would allow Apple to leverage the new "big plus" of having Windows run in virtualization, but it would force MICROSOFT to support it.

    Everyone wins.

    Just a guess :)

    No thanks.

4.0 max whilst retaining current size. It's a phone not a tablet.

Have you used a 4.3" phone. They don't seem that much physically bigger but the screen size is awesome! Apple keeps getting squeezed with adding new technology because of the size limitations of the phone. Giving us a slightly bigger size with the advantage of a bigger screen size AND more components seems like an excellent tradeoff.

Yeah - I know if will never happen because SJ is compulsive obsessive with never making things bigger.

Why? I loved my iPhone 4 (before I lost it) but my 3GS is far easier to hold.

I still prefer the iPhone4 design aesthetically, but the reason is the awesomeness of the exterior metallic antenna look, rather than the rectangular block shape. Although, a teardrop design would mean the loss of the external antenna, which would be disappointing from an aesthetic point of view, but something I could live with.

Yup, I was one of the haters when the iPhone 4 leaked. I still prefer the physical design of my 3GS. The rounded edged are perfect holding the phone feels like shaking someone's hand. The iPhone 4 doesn't feel as nice to hold, even if it does have nicer aesthetics.

I would kill for a return to the old design, but eliminate the chrome rim on the front and have the back case curl all the way up to the black face. Then made the back from a new material that doesn't crack as easily as the old plastic. Maybe a molded carbon fiber design? That would be sexy as hell. An iPhone 4 style dark grey carbon back casing flush with the now iconic black face, no shiny chrome ********.

Exactly. Apple says they will pay 70% to the music companies. They worked out their deals with them at that rate. If another company wants to sell music, they by no means have to get the same deal as every other company selling music. Its just nuts to think that way.

Yep. And they agreed to let the labels decide the price in exchange for the whole no DRM thing. Plus at the time they didn't apparently think to put that whole "same or better" rule in the mix.

so basically Apple gets what they deserve on this one. But I suspect they will weather the storm. THeir money is in hardware anyway
